Open-air Comfort
Annually, international car shows exhibit the industry’s most spectacular models and concept cars. But only when every detail is right and the vehicle’s function follows its design will a model be a winner. This is true of the Mercedes SLK, which now brings the third generation of its complex panoramic roof design to the market. Simply pressing a button allows the top to switch from light to dark, permitting an unimpeded view of the stars at night, while excluding all weather influences. In the roof system’s interior, a series of hydraulic hoses allow the top to be quickly lowered and raised by electro hydraulics without annoying interruptions. These small all-rounders are made of polyamide and polyurethane at the REHAU Strontium plant in Rehau, Germany, where they pass through an entire series of manufacturing and testing stations. Diameters range from 1.8 to 4.0 mm. Up to 21 individual lines are installed for each roof system.
