RAUMAT delivers fast, reliable snow and ice melting solution for rooftop parking area of global delivery giant

Efficiency is key for delivery giants operating in busy metropolitan areas, where tight deadlines and year-round demand leave no room for downtime. Even during harsh winter conditions, operations must continue, and packages still need to reach their destinations.

This was the challenge facing a global delivery firm building a warehouse and distribution facility, designed as a modern Class-A logistic hub with a 118,392 sq. ft. parking lot in New York. Located two stories above ground and overlooking John F. Kennedy International Airport, the construction team sought a high performance, reliable snow and ice melting solution to keep parking areas and ramps safe and accessible for both employees and vehicles regardless of winter conditions.

To meet these demands, the team chose the REHAU Snow and Ice Melting System featuring RAUMATTM radiant mats for both the rooftop parking deck area and the sloped driving ramp.

“RAUMAT stood out as the optimal choice thanks to its efficient installation of pre-assembled mats with RAUPEX® O2 Barrier pipe that simply roll out into position offering consistent pipe spacing for system performance and durability to withstand heavy loads and extreme conditions,” said Jim Gutman, project manager and president of Jillian Mechanical Corporation.

With a powerful output of 20,103,545 BTU/hour, the system will offer rapid and consistent melting even during heavy snow or ice storms.

The rooftop area — which accommodates about 310 vehicles — and ramp required 216 RAUMAT coils, in various lengths, 893 circuits and 182,037 ft of 5/8 in. RAUPEX O2 Barrier pipe (34 miles).

Project: Inwood Warehouse I Inwood, NY
Type of construction:Warehouse/Distribution center, to open in 2026
Scope of project:118,392 sq. ft. rooftop parking lot; 216 RAUMAT coils [182,037 ft. (34 miles) of RAUPEX O2 Barrier pipe]
Project manager:Jilliam Mechanical Corp.
General contractor:Aurora Contractors
Architect:KSS Architects
REHAU systems used:Snow and ice melting (RAUMATTM radiant mat, RAUPEX O2 pipe, RAIFILTM, PRO-BALANCE® manifold)

“A snow and ice melting system was an obvious choice for a region with harsh winters that demands year-round accessibility,” said Gutman. “It will keep the parking lot and entrance/exit ramp slip-free and safe for drivers, ensuring business continues without disruption. Additionally, the installation speed was incredible. The ability to roll out pre-assembled mats dramatically reduced labor time, minimized on-site measuring and cutting, and enabled the construction team to complete the project ahead of schedule.”

The REHAU RAUMAT solution proved to be a game-changer for this project, streamlining installation, reducing labor requirements, and ensuring uniform heat distribution across the rooftop and ramp structures. Impressed by its efficiency and reliability, the project manager noted that RAUMAT is a strong contender for future hydronic radiant applications where speed, precision and long-term performance are critical.

The logistics hub serving the JFK industrial submarket is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026.
