What makes you passionate about Passivhaus?

Heat loss and heat conservation for the customer is of paramount importance, both from a cost and comfort perspective. Passivhaus products allow the specifier a solution for home owners, allowing them to embrace these products for the home and their working environments to meet those challenges. REHAU has a number of Passivhaus fenestration solutions, that allows specifiers to choose the right product for their project to achieve the highest energy efficient standards.

What’s been your most exciting project involving REHAU Passivhaus products to date and what did it include?

The Royal Arsenal at Woolwich - the flagship development of 180 apartments by Berkeley Urban Renaissance offered a number of challenges. Positioned and adjacent to the River Thames at Woolwich, Berkeley’s have created a modern London living lifestyle whilst sympathetically maintaining an atmosphere and environment steeped in English history.

The site sits just across the river from London City Airport, which required windows and doors to meet an exceptionally high acoustic performance standard. Additionally the height and location of the windows meant that they would be exposed to potentially strong winds. To ensure residents of the apartments benefited from the exceptional views to the West and East of the river, window frames with large expanses of glass were used.

REHAU were able to offer a perfect solution, the GENEO composite self reinforcing tilt and turn window, with GENEO doors finished in smooth grey. The windows were finished with powder coated aluminium cills to match the windows. The installer working with the architect finalised the design with complimentary matching powder coated aluminium reveals and cloaked soffits. The end result whilst stunning in appearance, also offers the apartments residents, excellent comfort and a highly energy efficient windows and doors.

I am passionate about building high-performance, ultra energy efficient buildings that meet stringent certification standards. The beauty of Passivhaus in my opinion is it guarantees not only efficiency but everyday optimum comfort.

It has to be the GENEO window system, it really is a superbly versatile solution.  Not only because it can offer the very low u-values but also because of its self reinforced polymer makeup meaning very large sash sizes, a vast number of colour options and its slim sightlines.
