Another step within the framework of the strategic realignment

REHAU sells its telecommunications business unit to the Swedish company Hexatronic

Erlangen. - Sustainable and profitable growth for the entire REHAU Group is also the primary objective of the Building Solutions Division. In order to drive this forward, the first steps have already been taken in the last two years in the sense of a strategic realignment. A further step will now follow with the sale of the Telecommunications Division.

The polymer specialist REHAU currently manufactures and sells complete systems for fibre optic installation, from laying and distribution to house connections and cabling in buildings, within its telecommunications business. As part of its realignment, the family-owned company is now selling this business to the Swedish group Hexatronic Group AB (publ) ("Hexatronic") - a company that develops, markets and supplies products, components and system solutions with a focus on the fibre optic market. Hexatronic has already signed a binding asset purchase agreement to acquire all the telecommunication activities of the REHAU Group, and the closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The acquisition, which will be a carve-out from the REHAU Group, is highly strategic for Hexatronic Group. The German FTTH (Fibre to the Home) market is in an early phase of expansion. By combining the capabilities of REHAU Telecommunications' micro duct business with Hexatronic's complete FTTH solution, Hexatronic will become a major player in the fast growing Western European market. The acquired business includes the worldwide activities in sales and product management for the areas of fibre optic network expansion and cable protection including production. As already announced at the beginning of May, the sale of the telecoms business will not relocate micro duct production and close the Neulengbach plant, but will secure the retention of the site and jobs.

"With the sale of the Telecommunications business unit, we are taking another significant step as part of our strategic realignment", explains Dr Roger Schönborn, Head of the Building Solutions Division within the REHAU Group. "At the same time, we see it as our responsibility to create the best conditions for a sustainable and successful telecommunications business for our employees and customers. With the sale, we ensure that the existing potential can be fully exploited and future growth can be created," the division head further explains. "We are convinced that with the Hexatronic Group we have found the "best owner" for our employees and customers, providing the optimal environment for the integration of our telecommunications business. We have great confidence", emphasises Dr Schönborn, "that  Hexatronic will reliably and sustainably drive the further development of the business unit as part of their growth policy.”

"We are very glad to have reached an agreement with the REHAU Group to acquire their telecom activities," says Henrik Larsson Lyon, CEO of the Hexatronic Group. "It’s a highly skilled team together with high quality products that will fit very well into the Hexatronic Group. Throughout the process we have met people who are deeply committed and engaged in their work, which is a foundation for a successful business. In addition to a highly skilled team," adds Henrik Larsson, "we will get access to a state-of-the-art micro duct production plant, strategically located in Central Europe. (...)."
