Why Edge Tape Failure Happens?

You have just received your new modular kitchen. Everything looks pristine. The shutters are flush, the colour is exactly what you chose, and the edges look sharp and clean. Six months later, one corner is chipping. A year later, an edge is lifting near the sink. By year 2, there is a visible colour difference between the shutter surface and the edge tape running along it.

Problem 1: Chipping

Chipping happens when the edge tape material cannot absorb everyday impact. Cabinet corners, drawer edges, and door frames take repeated knocks from chairs, bags, cookware, and daily contact. Problem 2: Edge Lifting

Problem 5: Sharp Edges

The material itself is often the root cause of sharp edges. Under cutting blades every material behaves differently based on hardness, thickness and density. PVC is a rigid plastic. It tends to micro-chip while trimming and may result in sharp edges whereas ABS is much tougher and ductile. It cuts cleanly like butter giving refined edges. If it comes out sharp with ABS you need to check on the machine setup.

Apart from material hardness its density also plays a vital role. A cheap edgeband contains heavy fillers to reduce manufacturing costs. But these fillers make the edgeband highly abrasive creating razor sharp edges on the furniture.
