The fascination of light. How to combine surfaces and light in a creative way.

Warm or cold light, floor lamp or spotlight, smart home or traditional switches – playing with light contributes significantly to the ambience of a room. Whether it’s through bright windows that bring sunlight into the room during the day, or after sunset by choosing the right light source, and now also the colour.

Especially in modern designs, this doesn’t always have to mean adding another light switch or even another visible lamp. Switches and lamps can be integrated discreetly into the surface instead. We’d be happy to show you what that can look like using our surfaces and edgebands as examples. Find your inspiration.

Light source behind the surface:

Our RAUVISIO crystal glass laminate makes it possible to relief mill the surface, creating a translucent appearance. The advantage: interesting light effects for logos or icons, for example, which merge and become completely invisible when not in use to create a smooth plain surface.

Touch-sensitive technology can be placed directly behind the surface, while obtrusive switches are replaced by light symbols. This is elegant, visually appealing and hygienic at the same time. Also suitable for use in wet rooms.

Translucent edgebands:

Even small areas benefit from the correct use of light. Use RAUKANTEX lite to make thin horizontal or vertical surfaces really eye-catching – there’s no need for this to be static; programmable LED strips can provide light pulses or colour changes, for example.

A make-up mirror with a difference:

RAUVISIO crystal mirror is our alternative to conventional mirrors. The advantage is obvious, as the material can be processed directly on site using conventional carpentry tools, without the risk of mirrors breaking. At the same time, RAUVISIO crystal mirror can also be trimmed, allowing for the integration of light.

Light effects without any electricity:

The RAUKANTEX lumina edgeband does not require any external help, such as LED strips. It absorbs natural sunlight or artificial light, then bundles it together via light-harvesting pigments, creating wonderful lighting effects. Furniture becomes eye-catching.

Light up the dark:

RAUKANTEX light up is our edgeband solution that stores sunlight or artificial light and is then literally illuminated by it – for several hours. That way you always know where you’re going.
