Saving resources, developing sustainable furniture components
For the Furniture Solutions division, sustainability is more than just a word. “It’s not a trend — it’s part of our corporate philosophy,” says Daniel Elfe-Degel, the Team Leader of Product Management, who has also been the first Sustainability Officer of the Furniture Solutions division at REHAU. The division is offering the interior design sector ever new options for designing home interiors sustainably, including edgebands and surfaces produced using resource-saving processes.
In order to save resources, the division is constantly expanding its activities. For example, since 2020 the production operations of all edging factories in Europe have been 100 per cent powered by renewable energy sources. There are also two new sustainable product lines: RAUKANTEX eco, which is produced using 50 per cent post-industrial recyclates, and RAUKANTEX evo, which differs from a conventional polypropylene edge in that its production is guaranteed to use non-fossil preliminary raw materials instead of crude oil.
For Furniture Solutions, the continuing path towards circular economy-oriented products is clearly defined: The goal is to increase the proportions of recyclates, use additional alternative raw materials and, in the next step, globally expand the use of renewable energy sources.
