#peoplefirst – responsibility first and foremost

The year 2020 was characterized by extraordinary challenges. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our top priority at REHAU has been to protect our employees and maintain our capacity for action as a globally operating company.

When the first reports from China arrived in January 2020, we began initial discussions at REHAU on the basis of confidence in our sense of responsibility and our capabilities. Only a short time later, the task force was formed. It was the driving force that planned our measures proactively, flexibly, and efficiently. The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team has been managing the protective and hygiene measures for our more than 20,000 employees around the world. Its top priority is to protect health — that of our factory employees whose activities cannot be carried out via mobile working and of our clerical workers. The measures taken include masks, social distancing rules and disinfection, antigen tests and temperature monitoring, business travel rules and rotating shift systems. But above all, it’s about providing people with information and communicating with them without any gaps. #peoplefirst is becoming the motto for a new form of cooperation in our organization — for dynamic sharing, mutual understanding and solidarity. It’s also becoming the concept that sums up all of our Covid-19 measures to date.

“Because of their sense of responsibility for ourselves and others, our teams have delivered an outstanding performance,” says our Chief Operating Officer (COO), Uwe H. Böhlke. From a standing start, the IT team has made large-scale mobile work possible. Just as quickly, 40,000 masks, 8,000 rapid tests and accommodation for commuters affected by the restrictions on cross-border traffic were organized. “When we were deciding what measures to take I also wanted to be first off the mark, in order to show our employees that we not only are concerned about them but we also actively take care of them,” says the COO. Pioneering changes are part of the picture: Mobile work will provide us with maximum flexibility in many areas in the future as well.
