In the industrial town of Kapfenberg, in the north of Austria's Styria region, a new 2,400 m² hall of residence has been built. The 68-bed facility will host the players of Austrian second-tier football club Kapfenberg (known as KSV 1919) and the Kapfenberg Bears, who play in the Austrian basketball Bundesliga. It will also be used by swimmers and skiers training at the Teamsportakademie Kapfenberg. ‘The basic idea is to allow both youngsters and older athletes to live together under one roof’, says Erwin Fuchs, KSV's President and one of the driving forces behind the athletes’ new accommodation. The plans for the building were drawn up by Graz-based architectural duo Tischler/Mechs (tmp.architekten). The whole space is heated using REHAU underfloor heating, specifically the Varionova studded panel system. Kapfenberg-based heating specialists Erwin Fuchs Bäderstudio Heizung und Sanitärbau GmbH installed a total of around 13,000 linear metres of 17 x 2.0 RAUTHERM S pipes throughout the accommodation and other usable space, which covers a total area of just over 2,400 m². The heating and hygienic drinking water supply were connected using a total of approx. 2,000 linear metres of RAUTITAN stabil pipe, installed using the compression sleeve jointing system. The RAUPIANO Plus system was used for the domestic waste water installation, ensuring excellent sound insulation.
