Munich Underground Railway

A partnership in place for decades

The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Munich U-Bahn took place more than 50 years ago on February 1, 1965. Since then, just under EUR 4.3 billion has been spent on its construction and expansion. The 103.1 km-long network, which connects 100 U-Bahn stations in the Munich metropolitan area, is used by nearly four million people per year. And this number is increasing all the time. The U-Bahn system, which is laid out as a series of secant lines, is being continuously maintained and upgraded. Plans for 2017 include upgrading the signal box technology and making renovations to the power supply.
