Polymer specialist recognized for developing sustainable approaches across the entire value chain.

Closed-loop value chains from product design through to recycling are not a pipe dream for polymer specialist REHAU – they are reality. For decades, the company has been developing sustainable approaches across the entire value chain and putting them into practice. These efforts have now been recognized with the inclusion of REHAU in the series of “50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders,” an initiative by media production agency TBD Media Group in conjunction with the United Nations.

The earth’s natural resources are finite, which means it is imperative that companies use them responsibly and sustainably. The aim of the “50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders” campaign is to draw attention to this issue and provide companies with a platform on which to showcase their commitment before an international audience. “As a family business, REHAU adopts a long-term approach to its responsibility toward future generations,” explains William Christensen, CEO of the REHAU Group. “To be one of the ‘50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders’ is a real incentive for our 20,000 employees to continue striving for greater sustainability and climate protection. By 2025, REHAU plans to increase its recycling rate across the group to well over 15% while reducing CO2 emissions by at least 30%. “We believe in sustainability as a philosophy that is reflected in three core values: trust, reliability and innovation. We want to develop forward-looking technologies to improve lives,” asserts Dr. Veit Wagner, member of the Supervisory Board of the REHAU Group. Using recycled materials rather than new materials in production can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 88%. In addition to the resource-friendly manufacture of durable polymer system solutions, REHAU focuses on the high-quality processing and reuse of post-consumer and post-industrial waste materials. REHAU already develops and manufactures high-quality products from recycled materials in all of its activities across the furniture, construction and automotive industries.

By signing the UN Global Compact in May 2020, the REHAU Group has clearly demonstrated its commitment to responsible corporate governance and sustainability. “We are constantly working with all our divisions to evaluate our sustainability strategy,” Christensen affirms. “And continuing to develop it.”
