More Than 300 Matches Already Available From Stock for Both Laser and Hot Air Technologies
LEESBURG, Va., April 28, 2015 – REHAU announces that its industry-leading LaserEdge adhesive-free edging is available in an expanding number of matches, making it possible to create high-end, seamless monolithic panels in high-gloss or textured finishes with more than 300 popular HPL and melamine designs.
REHAU adhesive-free technology is a two-layer edgeband comprising a surface and a color-matched functional layer. It is applied by edgebanders that melt the functional layer on the reverse side of the edgeband and weld it to the carrier board. The resulting seam-free board offers increased aesthetic appeal with no joints to stain or discolor, as well as superior heat and moisture resistance and an overall more efficient manufacturing process when compared to EVA glue.
“REHAU is quickly ramping up our adhesive-free stock program for both hot air and laser edgebanders to enable manufacturers on all points of the spectrum to streamline the edgeband application process while taking aesthetics to a new level,” said Dr. Thomas Troeger, North American director for REHAU’s furniture solutions division.
Adhesive-free technology eliminates several steps in the manufacturing process, including adhesive color matching selection, processing set-up and additional cleaning and maintenance requirements, which reduces both material and labor costs. Further, it reduces idle machine periods and associated energy costs. The safety of the edgeband application is also enhanced, eliminating the potential for adhesive fume inhalation, as well as burn injuries typically resulting from the high temperatures required for EVA and polyurethane (PUR) adhesive application.
